NORA
“Please,” she whispered. “Can I have a word with you?”
I stopped. My breath hitched for a moment, but I masked it quickly.
I didn’t turn to look at her. I just stood there, my fists clenched at my sides, waiting for the anger bubbling in my chest to settle.
The one person I thought I could trust. The one person I believed would always stand by me, no matter what.
And yet, when I needed her the most, she had chosen the other side.
I swallowed hard, willing myself not to react, not to let the emotions cloud my mind.
Then, after a long moment, I let out a breath.
“Say whatever it is you have to say and make it quick.”
I still didn’t look at her, but I could hear the sharp inhale she took, the way her breathing grew uneven.
“Nora, Luna, please,” she said, her voice breaking. “Not like this. Just……
