Achilles POV
"So what do you think?" Alpha Cas asked.
I shrugged, pretending to find nothing worth my while. My beta, Sam, chuckled lightly. Cas looked between us, "there must be something we can do to sway your opinion, Alpha Achilles."
"I wonder, Alpha Cas," I mused, "is your son having any better luck trying to get protection from other packs? Because the way I look at it you have just presented your territory on a large, silver platter, because you aren't strong enough to protect it."
I could see the old man trying to keep his wolf in check. I smirked.
"I am doing this to protect my pack," he growled in a low tone, "when I renounce my leadership to my son next year, he needs to have allies."
"And who is to stop anyone from slaughtering you and anyone who stands in their way of this territory," I asked, "it doesn't look like you have many warriors, and even less trained she-wolves. Alpha Cas you have set your son up to fail."
"You are quickly wearing out your welcome," he commented, his eyes glowing slightly, "I'd advise you to be less blunt."
"Alpha," Sam mocked, "this is supposed to be a mission of peace. Diplomacy. Other packs treat us like only animals...remember?"
"Yes," I commented, smirking. I licked my lips at the opening Sam provided, " other packs do treat us like wild animals. Is that why you have taken on the task of babysitting us for the day, Alpha Cas? Because we make the others uncomfortable?"
"No."
Lie.
I smirked, feeling all too much like my wolf was peaking through, "were you worried that we would tear through your pack once we saw how pathetic it was?"
"Enough," he roared, his grey eyes turning silver. A few of his warriors came around the corner. Some of them had their claws out.
"What is this?" I said, feigning my growl, "isn't this a peaceful get together?"
"You've been insulting my family, my pack, all day," he growled in response, " and I have had it up to here with you."
"You can't kill Alpha Achilles," Sam scoffed, "we haven't been aggressive. Nor has he challenged you to take your pack. You, Alpha Cas are the one that has made this a scene."
"Dad," the young one said, coming around the corner. He saw his father's eyes glowing and walked over to us, looking at Sam and myself, "what is going on."
"Alpha Cas and I were conversing and unfortunately he cannot contain his wolf," I laughed.
"You insulted my family," he growled, "You've been calling my grandson unruly. You've been calling my daughter an omega, when the moon goddess herself gifted her to my wife and I. You've been making comments about how my son will fail because I did not provide a stable pack."
"He's not wrong," the younger Alpha commented. The father looked at his son in shock, "Ever since mom died, you gave up. The pack dwindled. Training came to a standstill. You dont even believe she-wolves should be trained. I may not like Alpha Achilles, but he is correct. You've doomed this pack. And unless another pack comes back with an offer to protect us, my son won't be able to lead one day."
"Raphael," he gasped.
"I will protect your pack," I commented lightly.
Both men turned to me, but it was the older alpha who spoke, "what?"
"The fact that your son understands the weight of your actions and has gone along with this charade today proves that he will do what he must to protect this pack," I replied, "But I have two conditions."
"Name them," Alpha Cas said in disbelief.
"You are old school, yes?" I asked. "First, I call for Nach Oben Bewegen."
"I will do no such thing," Alpha Cas said, "I have one year left, and then Raphael will take over."
"You refuse to fight for your pack?" I asked. I looked to Raphael who seemed to be considering what I'd asked, "would you fight for your pack?"
"This is nonsense," Alpha Cas scoffed, "my son won't fight me for the title. He knows it's his soon enough."
"Well soon enough just became today," I chuckled, looking at both men, "my father was a firm believer that if an alpha cannot supply the stability and safety of his pack he renounces his position. If he refuses to do so than the next in line fights for it. Raphael would you fight for your pack."
"No."
Raphael looked to his father, who'd attempted to speak for him, then back to me, "and if I lose, would you still offer your protection."
"If you lose then you are an unfit alpha," I replied," but yes I would still offer my protection. I will however kill your father and force you to earn your title back by fighting my beta here, Sam."
"Fine," he gulped.
I smiled as Alpha Cas looked at his son in disbelief, "this is treason."
The warriors looked unsure abiut what they were supposed to do.
"It is not," his son said. He turned to the crowd that had gathered around us, "I call for Nach Oben Bewegen. The moving up ceremony. We will adjourn to the training grounds. If i beat my father, I will become the new Alpha of this pack. If i lose I will renounce my position of next alpha in line."
"That wasn't part of the deal," Alpha Cas said, looking between me and his son.
"No," Raphael sighed, "But Alpha Achilles is correct. If I cannot beat you then I'm not strong enough to lead the pack. If I lose, I don't deserve it."
I smiled.
I didnt like the passive aggressive nature of this pack but I had to admit that Alpha Cas' pups had some stones.
"Alpha," Sam said, nudging me.
I hadn't noticed that most of the crowd had begun making their way to the training grounds. Suddenly I felt as though I were home. I smiled a little bit more.
"Are you enjoying yourself, Alpha," Sam chuckled.
"Oh very much so."
