Calvin Holmes and the Eastern May
I had fully owned this boat for the past 15 years, before that I was a partial share owner. She was my second wife.
I loved every inch of her, so it deeply pained me to think about what I needed to do to stop Ronald Parsons.
We boarded the ship as the dock attendants threw off the lines for us. I slowly reversed out of our slip as I moved back to drive position and slowly chugged out to sea.
Ronald was in my wheel house, he sat in the co captains chair and it made me feel sick to my very core.
Once we got out to open water, he seemed to visibly relax.
" I had been f*****g your wife long before you came along. She chose you over me because you were a captain and I was just a deckhand. Stupid woman." He said as he picked at his scabs.
" I'm not talking about this with you, we aren't friends, this isn't old home week you sick prick, so shut yer damn mouth." I seethed, as I slowly turned our course north instead of south.
January was south I needed to take Ronald the complete opposite way.
He was too self involved to even feel the fine turn of the rudder, the way the waves contradicted the push of the boat.
A seasoned captain would know these things, not a dumb criminal.
I could also sense captain Michael's presence. I knew he was somewhere stowed away on my boat.
I usually wouldn't put up with a stow away, but I was flippin happy to have a friend.
He knew me so well. He knew that I would NEVER take this boat out all by myself. Not even to do a simple ocean crossing off season. No damn way.
" When she told me about the baby, I wanted her to get a divorce so we could be together. Just us two and our baby, sweet April. That was my grandma's name you know?
But dumb Andrea refused, said you would take better care of her and our baby. I hated that I couldn't convince her otherwise.
But...you were gone for half the year. I had a real good time f*****g your wife, indeedy!" he laughed as he rubbed his hands together.
I bit my tongue, letting him talk as I continued to turn the boat northbound. I had an idea where I was going to end this charade.
Suddenly alarm bells where chiming. "Get down to the engine room and check that alarm!" I yelled.
"f**k you captain d**k head, I ain't your employee, go on and see for yourself!" He yelled and spat on my floor.
I put the boat on auto pilot and ran down stairs. I was right, Charles Michaels was hiding in the shadows, he set off the bilge alarm to draw me down there.
" Ah, good plan Michaels thanks for having my back. I'm in a pickle with Parsons here.
He's got my wife and that Adam asshole tied up somewhere, said he's going to burn them if I don't bring him to January." I said, filling him in on everything.
" I could sneak up on him and take him out in his sleep cap." Michaels offered.
" No good. But, I have a plan, it's putting the boat in jeopardy if we get caught, but it involves crossing into international waters. If you want out, say so now." I held his shoulder firmly.
" Im not crazy Dave but I am crazy Charlie, so yup. I'm all in. Let's get the sucker good."
I nodded as I made plans to bring Michaels dinner later.
" Also, I need you to radio Crazy Dave to go pick up Janu and her fellas.
Use the emergency radio in the engine room, I'll clear chanel 17 for you, make sure he takes them far away from Port Bellos."
" Aye captain." he said as he slunk back into the shadows.
My heart was much lighter with my friend on board.
I marched back up to the wheel house. Ronald Parsons was lying on the floor, passed out.
I stood over him plotting his murder. I could kill him right this minute, just heart punch him.
But...his accomplice might set that fire if he didn't hear from Ronald. I couldn't chance it. I leaned down to try and get his phone off of him.
Just as I placed one finger into his breast pocket, his hand snaked out and he grabbed my arm, digging his fingers into the knife cut, reopening it.
"Hey! None of that! If my guy doesn't hear from me by tomorrow, he's lighting a match.
That's all it will take, one single match and poof! No more wife.
Adam's death will also be blamed on you. After all...they are tied up on your property. It won't take a genius to see that you kidnapped him for your own gain.
After all it is you who got angry when he dumped your daughter to hook up with my daughter. Ha! I see the headlines right now.
You've always been a greedy bastard. You took every dime of the money that my lawyers gave you in restitution I paid for Janu.
I know it, Andrea told me. You invested it back into the Eastern May.
What do you think Janu will say when she finds out you stole from her. That money was all for her!" He spat out.
I fell back onto the floor, holding my arm, breathing hard. His words hurt me more than my arm pain did. Mainly because it was true all true, I stole that money from Janu.
She could have used it for her education. She wouldn't have had to work so hard for everything she had achieved.
I shook my head, clearing it. I've made up for all of this now. The Eastern May was hers. The money would go to her.
I won't let a person, no a scum bag like Parsons tell me I'm a bad father.
" Call your guy, let my wife go now or I'm not taking you to January." I said, as I pulled myself up to stand above him.
" Not happening. I hold all the cards now. I'm in charge. I've waited years to have my little girlly back, it's all I thought about, night after night. I want what is mine. You can have April.
But Janu...sweetheart Janu, she's all mine. I owe her so much.
I know I hurt her a few times, but I just lost control I needed her so badly. You don't understand soulmates.
Janu and I are soulmates."
I kicked him in the stomach and punched him in the face.
"I'm done with your games!" I yelled as I beat him up.
" I'm done with your insanity. My daughter has NEVER been, and NEVER will be your fucking...soul...mate!" I yelled as I hit him again and again.
Suddenly Parsons phone rang.
I grabbed for it as it slid across the floor out of our reach.
" If I don't answer it..." He said with a mouth full of blood, gurgling on it.
I picked it up and shoved it at him.
" Parsons." He mumbled.
Whoever was talking to him was yelling at him.
" Burn it then, burn it to the ground!" he yelled.
I grabbed his shirt and shook my head, "No, please no!" I begged him.
" Hold up. Call me tomorrow. We will decide what to do then." He hung up the phone and smiled a very bloody smile.
I was playing this too loose, letting my anger put my family in jeopardy. I had to cool off.
I almost killed him.
