Chapter 19: Unspoken Realities
Emma’s Point of View
The sound of Nate’s footsteps echoed softly against the stone floors of Everdawn House as he walked ahead of me, his hands casually tucked into the pockets of his coat. There was something about the way he moved—confident, yet unhurried. As if he had all the time in the world. As if he belonged here.
But he didn’t.
Not really.
And yet, I found myself growing used to his presence.
I wasn’t sure if that was a good thing.
I followed him toward the dining room, where the long mahogany table sat untouched. Sunlight filtered through the large windows, casting warm golden patterns across the polished surface. It was one of the few rooms in Everdawn that still carried a lingering warmth, a contrast to the cold, empty halls beyond.
Nate pulled out a chair……
