Chapter 22 – Secrets in the Dark
Emma’s Point of View
The library felt colder after Callum left, like his presence had pulled all the warmth from the room. The tension still lingered in the air, thick and suffocating, wrapping around me like the walls of Everdawn itself.
I exhaled, my fingers still gripping the old letter we had found in the hidden passage. A warning. A desperate plea for Robert Clarke to leave Everdawn behind.
But he hadn’t.
And now, nearly a century later, his past was colliding with mine.
Nate stood beside me, arms crossed, his gaze fixed on the doorway where Callum had just disappeared. “Well, that was subtle.”
I let out a humorless laugh. “Callum doesn’t do subtle.”
Nate turned to me, his expression serious. “You know he’s lying, right?”
“Of course I do.” My voice was sharper ……
