49. Athena
My eyes spared Lorenzo a glance and I looked away.
Pain. Disappointment. Heartbreak.
I felt it all.
This was not the reaction I expected from him after fighting someone like Charlotte and emerging victorious.
I thought he would be thrilled and proud of me. Proud that his woman proved to be fit to stand by his side.
But the look on his face…
It reminded me that I wasn't his Luna, just a contractual woman to warm his bed.
Suddenly, the high horse I was riding stumbled, throwing me off it's back.
I exhaled sharply, closing my eyes and reopening them, attempting to calm myself as my heart twisted painfully from the way Lorenzo was staring at me.
His gaze was so distant, colder than ice, and devoid of the warmth he had once shown me—the same man who had surprised me with a bed full of flowers ……
