“What just happened?” Beta Mark asked, bewildered.
“I am sorry.” She said softly, looking at Damian. But what she did next stupefied them all.
She walked towards Damian, lifted her hand gracefully, and gently touched his forehead. The boy, startled by contact, suddenly collapsed, his body started to fall when she reached and gently held him. Beta Mark growled at the scene. His eyes darkened and he pounced on her.
“Mark STOP!” The king commanded, stopping him in his track. His hands were trembling.
“She attacked my pup.” He said angrily, searching for approval.
“He is not harmed, I promise you that Beta Mark. I would never do anything to hurt him.” Maggie said, looking him straight in the eye.
“What. did. you. do. to. him?” He answered angrily, fighting against the king's order.
“I only put him to sleep. Please, I didn’t hurt him. I would never hurt him.”
“Maggie, I am debating about letting my Beta fulfill his desire and snap your neck. You have 2 minutes to explain yourself and use them wisely.”
Maggie looked at Damian caressing his face and gently moving a stride of hair. She then placed him on the ground and backed away. Beta Mark growled at her.
“I…I…” She was lost in words.
“Maggie, what is it?” Agatha asked, taking a step closer.
“I am too soon.”
“What? What do you mean?”
“I came too early. This was a mistake. This could change everything. Why… I didn't know....” She started rambling, drawing in confusion.
“Maggie. Stop, you are rambling and you are not making any sense, so explain to us what happened?” Maggie looked at her friend and took a deep breath, attempting to calm her nerves down.
“The time in the Fairy Realm doesn’t pass at the same time as the rest of the Realms. Our land is filled with magic. Every being is unique but all of them together are a great source of power, so great that it actually affects time. Let me explain that every minute a person spends in our realm is an hour here. Every hour a day, one day is a week in the Fairy Realm. A week equals a month. I think you all understand what I mean.” She said, looking around the room, trying to read everyone.
The king stood beside his mate who was still hugging the prince. The witches mostly ignored the rest. Beta Mark stood still in his track, his body slightly shaking.
“Alright, but what does it have to do with the boy?” Agatha stated the obvious.
“So much power allows some of us to see time in the rest of the realms.”
“SO you can see the future?” Agatha arched a brow.
“No. No or yes? It is difficult to explain why I get a glimpse of a possible timeline or, as you call it, the future. But if a person is to intervene, enough that time can be altered.”
“What did you see?” The Queen asked.
Maggie finally got to see the Queen, her face lighted up as she smiled kindly at her. She looked carefully at her and took a step back. Beta Mark found the opportunity and ran to his son who was still lying on the floor unconscious.
The fairy stared at the Queen for a while without saying a word. Making the atmosphere even tenser. Maggie's attention turned to the king and then to Beta Mark, ending with the young boy who stood in front of the queen. Her eyes widened and she stood a step back, almost tripping on a chair.
“I came too early…” She kept repeating.
She looked at Damian who was in his father's arms. Her expression turned sad. She gulped hard, obviously upset.
“I am sorry. I didn't know. ”She said, looking at Damian, then turned around and touched the air with her palm while chanting some incomprehensible words, painting the same symbols with her fingers. Every movement left a luminous line.
The next moment, a portal opened. She hesitated for a moment to take the step and walk through it, looking sideways, giving one last look at Damian, she said.
“I will be back when the time is right.” And with that she walked through the portal which closed behind the moment she stepped in, leaving all of them puzzled.
Six months later
“Aaaaarg…” The Queen screamed as the light flickered as in a queue from her voice. “William.” She screamed and the door opened and the king ran in hurrying to her side.
“I am sorry I am late, my love.” He said apologetically, taking her hand in his.
The Queen was lying in her bed. The doctor accompanied by two nurses was the only other people in the room.
“She is almost here, Luna. Take a deep breath and push.” The doctor said, lifting the sheet to her knees. A small growl was heard as the king was fighting his wolf.
“A swear to you if I hear another growl you will be staying in the doghouse for a month!” The Queen said to her mate, who looked at her petrified and wined like a wounded puppy. The nurses muffled a laugh.
“I am sorry, love.” The King said, regaining control. She didn’t answer him, just squeezed his hand and pushed.
Hours later, a soft cry was heard and the Queen surrendered to her exhaustion. The doctor swaddled the baby in a blanket and looked at her. His eyes widened.
“What’s wrong?” The Queen asked, terrified.
The doctor looked at her.
“Her eyes.” He said, and then carefully gave the baby to his mother. He gently moved the blanker and looked at the baby cooing, her eyes glowing a Carpathian blue piercing color.
“She is beautiful, William, look.” The woman said and tears of joy spilled from her eyes. The king hammed approvingly as he hugged gently the most important women in his life, his heart filling with unconditional love.
After cleaning her up, the doctor and the nurses gave their best wishes to the couple and walked out, but before the door closed a small head peeked in.
“Mommy? Can I come in now?” Erik, their son, asked excitedly.
“Come Erik. Come and meet your baby sister.” The boy didn’t wait to be told twice. He ran towards them.
“Erik, carefully don’t run.” His father said and the boy slowed his tempo.
He stood over the small bundle in his mother's arms, looking at her with amazement.
“She is so small.” He said, making his parents giggle at him.
“She will grow, Erik,” his father said.
The boy nodded his head and then gently caressed the baby’s head, who giggled at his touch, the melody filling the room.
“I will protect you, little sister. I will always be here for you,” he said, kissing her softly on the top of her head. The Queen's eyes
spilled with joyful tears as she looked at both of her kids and then at her mate.
The four of them sat there embraced, feeling absolute happiness. Little did they know that danger was peeking its way just around the corner.
On the other side of the castle, a soft knock echoed through the door.
“Enter”
A man in his 40s wearing a stylish suit with a golden ring on his pinkie finger in the shape of a wolf sitting in the chair behind the desk said coldly. The door opened and the previously dark room filled with light from the hallway. The man didn’t spare the person who entered a look. He continued reading the big book in his hands.
“Master, I have news.” The female's voice said a soft table noticeable in her voice.
“What is it?” He simply said.
“The Queen gave birth to a girl.”
Suddenly, with a thud, the book in the man's hands was closed and the man leaned back in his chair and burst into evil laughter.
“Finally, some good news. Is she the chosen one?” He asked the woman, looking directly at her, his piercing stare making her feel uncountable enough, so she shifted the weight from one foot to the other, her head bowed deep in respect.
“I think so, master.” She said hesitating, her voice almost sounding like a whisper.
“I don’t need you to think I need you to know! IS SHE THE ONE?” He yelled at the woman, who was now visibly shaken with fear.
“I believe so, Master.”
“Why?”
“Her eyes were glowing from the moment she opened them. I have never seen anything like this in my many years working in this field.”
“You were there?”
“Yes, Master, I was one of the nurses who helped deliver her.”
“Perfect. You are dismissed.” The woman didn’t wait for another word. She almost ran out of the room.
The man turned his chair and gazed at the sky from the window behind him. An evil expression covered his face.
“Soon my son will be the King of the Werewolves. “
“Yes, we just need to ensure the obstacles in our way disappear as soon as possible.” His wolf said before both of them before exploding in a menacing laugh.
His eyes flickered in color as his mind linked.
“Son. Fate has smiled upon us. It is time to set our plan in motion. Proceed as planned.”
“Yes, father.” Was the only answer he received back. The full moon illuminating his face made the evil smile on his face grow even bigger.
“It has begun.” He said, laughing uncontrollably, his laughter echoing through the castle.
