Chapter 21 – Before the Storm
(Adrian’s POV)
Pain was a constant.
Adrian had grown used to it over the years—cuts, bruises, broken ribs from fights he had no business winning.
But this?
This was different.
The gunshot wound in his shoulder throbbed, his entire arm numb and burning all at once, the blood loss leaving him dizzy and drained.
But the worst part?
It wasn’t the pain.
It wasn’t even the fact that he had walked straight into his father’s trap.
It was the look on Evelyne’s face as she stitched him up in the dimly lit safe house, her hands working quickly, efficiently—but not gently.
Because she was furious.
And Adrian didn’t blame her.
