Adrian should have said no.
The moment the words left his mouth—"Meet me tomorrow night. I’ll get you inside."—he knew he had just crossed a line he couldn’t uncross.
And yet, as he stood outside Carter & Co. that night, staring at the city lights bleeding into the dark sky, he couldn’t bring himself to regret it.
Not yet.
But he would.
Because this wasn’t just about helping Evelyne.
This was betraying his father.
And that?
That was the kind of mistake people didn’t survive.

Adrian’s mind raced as he walked to his car, gripping the steering wheel so tightly his knuckles turned white.
There was still time to back out.
He could call Evelyne right now, tell her he changed his mind, tell her to run before it was too late.
But he didn’t……
