Evelyne’s pulse pounded as she walked away from Adrian, her hands clenched into fists so tightly that her nails dug into her palms.
She refused to turn back.
She refused to look at him.
If she did, she might hesitate.
And she couldn’t afford hesitation.
Not now.
Not when she was this close to the truth.
Adrian had confirmed what she already knew—her brother’s death wasn’t an accident.
But that wasn’t enough.
She needed names. Proof. The full truth.
And if Adrian Carter wasn’t going to give it to her, she was going to find it herself.
She just had to ignore the way her chest tightened at the thought of him.
