Author’s Note – Chapter 17
The system doesn’t yell that you’re wrong.
It just “changes the criteria”—as gentle as a breeze,
but enough to change the map of existence.
This chapter doesn’t talk about the limits of optimization.
It just shows that the new criteria don’t neutralize feelings,but are a way of filtering data according to the model’s own rules.
When the algorithm shifts from existence to existence within a “suitable community,”
it doesn’t immediately eliminate anyone.
It just asks:who do you fit with—and who fits with you?
The problem is no longer keeping people from disappearing,but keeping them within the dataset the algorithm deems most reliable.
And from here, the question is no longer whether we exist,but:what does it mean to exist in a way that the algorithm “accepts”?
