Yes, he is a darker character. There is an age gap in this story so he is more mature than Janet and definitely knows how to pull her strings. He wouldn't have actually harmed anyone but made her think it just to make sure she doesn't do anything crazy again. Which is a total d**k move. But I'm going to love developing his character and I hope you enjoy watching him change. Also, he feels guilty being attracted to someone he saw as a child that needed protection, so he's got to work through that.
