Sierra's POV


It took every ounce of resolve not to leave my seat and run onto the stage. Aaron could sense the change in my energy and looked sideways at me, confused. I couldn't look back at him. I felt his eyes on me, but my only concern was the person on stage staring into their dark blue eyes. I would have thought I'd seen a ghost if I hadn't been sitting here. She looked like a ghost, with her pale, almost see-through skin, hair matted in places, and dirt smeared across her face and clothing—nothing like the cheerful, exuberant woman who used to eat at our living room table. My Aunt Andrea was standing in front of me, a shell of the woman I remember.

"Sierra, what's the matter?" Aaron asked, sounding scared. I hadn't moved any muscles, but my heart was hammering ha……
