When I woke up, I was lying on something soft. I opened my eyes, blearily taking in the unfamiliar surroundings. The bedroom was spacious, with dark, muted colors that gave off an elegant vibe emphasized by the hardwood floors and matching furniture.
I was grateful for the dim lights as I pressed my fingers against the throbbing side of my head.
It was swollen.
“I swear to f**k, Matteo, if you gave me a bruise, I’m going to kill you,” I whispered into thin air.
Much to my surprise, thin air responded in a playful, feminine voice. “Be sure to let me know how that goes for you.”
I gave an embarrassingly high shriek, nearly flinching out of my skin. You can only have a gun waved in your face so many times, and I already reached my max from tonight.
But the woman standing……
