Chapter Thirty: Like Hell

RAYMOND 

Jackson:  Hey Ray. Thanks for reading my email. How’s it going? 

I stared at that text message the whole way home, so simple but so complicated. “How’s it going?” seemed like a trick question. How was I supposed to answer that? I over-thought that question all the way to the farm. 

I finally went with a generic answer. 

Raymond:  Its going well. What have you been up to? 

I really wanted to tell him everything. I wanted to tell him how we were turning the desert green with vegetables and fruit trees. I wanted to tell him about the farmers market and the food blog. I wanted to tell him about my new book project. I wanted to pour out my heart and catch up and keep going like nothing had happened. But I couldn’t. Despite his explanation and his apology……
