Relief.
I sat still, staring blankly at my phone lying on the center table, its screen glowing faintly as it vibrated against the wood. My body felt sluggish, my mind still clouded from the heated argument I had just had with Laura. My fingers curled into my palms as I fought the overwhelming frustration threatening to take over.
I didn’t want to answer it.
I wasn’t in the mood for another conversation—especially if this from an unknown caller was from Cameroon. My patience for dealing with him was already thin, and right now, I wasn’t sure I could even pretend to entertain whatever mind games he wanted to play.
But then, as the phone buzzed again, an unsettling thought wedged itself into my mind.
What if this wasn’t him?
What if this was something else entirely?
