"Nicole, Mr. Morgado knows that you have been unhappy these past few days, and you don't like Spike. Can you tell Mr. Morgado why?"
Ray held Nicole in his arms and softly asked.
The little girl lowered her gaze, her curled long lashes trembling, and her fists clenched tightly.
Facing Nicole, Ray was especially patient.
He slowly said, "I am your Mr. Morgado, no matter what unhappy things happen, you can tell me."
Nicole slowly loosened her clenched fist, raised her head, and met Ray's gaze.
Liam walked over from a distance, but stopped in his tracks just before reaching them.
The words Ray said to him in the car echoed in his ears once again –
Mommy never made any decisions for him; then, shouldn't he also refrain from……
