THE PAST
ADRIAN
Vanessa stared at me wide-eyed as I ordered her to stay back. I could see it in her eyes how desperately she wanted to protest and possibly ignore my order but my eyes weren't letting her.
For all her bravado, if there is one thing Vanessa excelled at, it's reading the room and logical thinking. She knows when to and when not to be stubborn.
She nodded and obeyed while everyone else left.
A serene silence full of tension enveloped the office as she stood stiffly by the door while I still stood at my table.
"Lock the door," I ordered after about five minutes of silent tension.
"What?"
"You heard me."
She glared at me for about a minute before letting out a sigh and doing as I said.
Once I heard the click of the lock, I moved away from my table and made my way towards her slowly.
