Amber's POV:
I turned to look at him. Sidney had already shifted his gaze toward me.
He looked utterly dejected, his usually sharp eyes now dull and lifeless, as though the energy had been drained from him entirely.
For some reason, I couldn't bring myself to walk away. "Alright," I said softly, "if staying here makes you feel a little better, I'll stay."
"Can you sit closer to me?" Sidney asked.
I moved closer, settling on the floor across from him and leaning against the bed.
That's when he noticed the still-unbandaged wound on my hand. Struggling a bit, he turned his wheelchair to retrieve the first aid kit, then stretched out his hand toward me.
Without a word, I placed my injured hand in his. His movements were slow and deliberate as he cleaned the wound and carefully wrapped it with gauze.
