The tires screeched as William took a sharp turn, the car speeding toward the airstrip.
Aunt Marie gripped the door handle. “Are you sure about this?”
“No,” I admitted. “But if we wait, it’s over.”
William’s jaw was tight. “If they spot us first, we won’t get another chance.”
I swallowed hard. I knew that.
But I also knew something else.
I wasn’t leaving without my mother.
On the other hand, my mother was desperately trying to escape
Her breath was ragged, her arms burning.
But the ropes around her wrists were looser now.
One more pull, the rope snapped.
Her hands were free.
Her heart pounded as she quickly untied her legs, glancing toward the door.
She could hear voices outside. They didn’t know she was free.
She had one shot at this and she wasn’t going to waste it.
She pressed herself against the wall……
