I thought I knew what exhaustion was. In my thirties, I ran ultra-marathons and a few iron-man triathlons. I knew what it was to push myself beyond my own physical endurance. But nothing in my life could compare to the absolutely bone-numbing debilitation I suffered after countless rounds of trying to satisfy Cecelia’s bottomless s****l appetite.
I lay on the floor in a tangle of blankets and Cecelia’s legs, with no memory of how we ended up there. When I lifted and turned my head, I could see two empty protein shake bottles that had gotten kicked under the bed frame.
