It was at that moment that I knew two things: First, I knew that I wanted, more than anything, to make Olivia my mate. Secondly, I knew that I absolutely couldn’t do that. Not now, anyway. Things were not looking good for me, and the only way I could think of to keep Olivia safe was to keep my distance from her. So I smiled blandly at the state trooper and answered, “Nope, still single. Do you have a sister?”
He was not amused by my joke. He gave me his squinty-eyed glare and stroked the butt of his gun again like he was seriously thinking about shooting me, all he needed was a good excuse. His partner gave him a little shove, clearly giving him a silent message to knock it off and leave already.
I waited for the po-po to leave my office, and then I pulled ……
