I entered my dorm feeling exhausted, and as I stepped inside, Lex, who emerged from her room with tired, half-opened eyes, greeted me. Her appearance indicated that she had just woken up, and it surprised me to see her awake since it was well past 1 a.m.

I opened my mouth to apologize for waking her up, thinking that the door opening must have done it. But before I could utter a word, Lex cut me off, her groggy eyes widening as she started sniffing the air. She asked why I reeked of blood before grabbing my arms, checking if I was okay, and turning on the lights, illuminating the room. I tried to reassure her that I was fine, but tears glistened in my eyes, betraying the facade I had desperately tried to maintain.
