None of us went home that night.
Apart from Gabriel, who promised to join us later, we all went back to the diner to mull over the madness of the night.
Sammy had wedged herself in the corner of the booth, leaning against the window and hugging her knees. Silent. She’s not said a word since we’d arrived.
Kaylee was sitting at the end of the booth, by Sammy’s feet, and Hudson was sitting opposite Sammy.
I strolled over, carefully, handing coffees to everyone before taking my seat next to Hudson.
He put his arm around me and squeezed me closer, ‘Are you okay?’ he whispered.
Gripping onto my mug, my breathing was shaky, ‘No,’ the hot mug almost burned my hands, but I had to feel something other than the current despair, ‘I feel… lost.’
