But their override would collapse the moment and erase Hale’s truth, forcing Riven to choose before understanding the cost. The entity’s bow changes everything. It isn’t attacking — it’s recognizing, opening a doorway only a willing witness can cross. The white-out is the threshold Hale once entered. By stepping toward it, Riven becomes not Hale’s replacement but his successor in the logic of the memory. Chapter 20 is the doorway. Chapter 21 is what waits inside.
