Chapter Five
When an up-tempo pop song soon began playing, I told Paul I probably wasn’t steady on my feet enough for any energetic dancing, and he escorted me back to our table, where we continued our conversation about Autumn Island. I asked him if the island had always been so populated in recent times, and he said no.
“Up until about forty years ago, only a few dozen residents lived on the island year-round. They might have gotten a few hundred tourists each summer, like many of the other large islands in the lake, but with only one small hotel at the time, they certainly couldn’t accommodate many people at a time.”
“So, what changed? How did the island eventually come to have the nine hundred-some residents it has today?”
Being that I suspected that ……
