I opened my eyes to a slit, not sure if the drug given was supposed to make me sleepy or not, I prayed for the later. Just in case, I slowed down my heartbeat and breathing, making them think I was asleep. A strange man who looked oddly familiar but only in the slightest ways, was pacing back in forth, seeming to be in a panic. I was sure I could run right now and he wouldn't even notice. He mumbled to himself about incomplete thoughts that didn't make any sense to me. Who was this man?
'What could she possibly be to him? She smells of nothing.'
'Did he take on a blood bag pooch? Would he do that?'
No, no, no. Brother was to caring to be as greedy as that.'
'Why did he want to get her back? Will he find me?'
This is giving me a headache.'
"Jerold, come here this instant." The strange man screeched. His panic was still evident and I wasn't sure if he knew how much emotions he was still projecting out of him. As a ruler you could not show emotions in this way to your subjects, Jerold must be someone he trusts. Interesting.
"Yes sire?" The gruffy man question, as he walked in looking like an ox. He may have been built up but there was a darkness radiating around him that made others not dare to approach. He seemed more likely to be the leader than this worried mess in front of me. Though the way this Jerold fellow addressed the man in front of me with the word 'sire' and a bow told me he followed him. Why would such a powerful, head strong man follow this guy in front of me? I wonder what his name was, he almost looked like my mate. He has black hair that seemed darker than the night sky with piercing red eyes that seemed haunted. What had he been through to make him this way? What tortured him in this manner?
"Bring the girl to the dudgeon, do not under any circumstances, touch her. Let everyone know if they touch her they will deal with me. Feed her twice a day and otherwise leave her be. Do I make myself clear?" The man asked in a demanding voice. There was no option but to give him the answer he searched for. He had to have royal vampire blood to be that powerful, or maybe he wasn't only vampire. Was that a possibility though?
"Crystal sire." The tone of Jerold's voice told me he disagreed with the response he had dished out. It seemed the former man didn't pick up on it though. Could he be that distracted with his thoughts not to see what was happening around him, it almost seemed like Jerold wasn't as loyal as the boss man thought. Let's see. All I could think was this was going to hurt if my senses were right and unfortunately, they were never wrong yet.
Jerold picked me up softly, cradling my small body against his. I could feel his heavy breathing as his thoughts started to consume mine. The vile thoughts swirling around made me gag, wanting to vomit all over the disgusting man. Instead I swallowed it down, praying he listened to his sire. As we reached the death stench, I knew we had arrived at the cells. Please goddess let him place me down and leave, make him the obedient man his sire thinks he is. My wishful thinking was crushed as I was thrown onto the hard concrete. I groaned in pain, slowly allowing my heart rate and breathing to increase, as if I had just been awoken by his actions. I rolled to my side, exaggerating the pain as if Sea wasn't with me. She couldn't heal us but I knew she was taking part of my pain to make it bearable.
"Beat her but do not forget to feed her twice a day, sire's request. Injected her once a week, as she is only human. I will be back soon." Jerold demanded before crossing his burly arms and exiting the cells. Three men came in, as if they thought they were facing a grown ass werewolf. The blows landed repeatedly as I tried to protect my head and laid there curled in a ball. I wanted to defend myself, I wanted to fight back but I fought the urge as I tried to listen to Sea's words. I needed to be patient, endure the endurable and let them think of me as weak.
