The Sterling and Tate family was cursed. They never knew the full details of why they had been cursed. They just knew that they were. Many generations past, mated couples from both families used their mate pull to do horrendous things. Those things had greatly hurt the werewolf community. These couples were an unstoppable force in their quest for power and profit.

It took many years to stop them. In those years, they caused considerable damage. Many lost their lives trying to stop them or becoming a victim of their evil plots. After a while, they realized that it was nothing that they could do but end their lives. After the guilty werewolves had been executed, they realized that they had to do something to prevent it happening again.

The strongest witches and fairies had banned together and placed both families under a curse. Because of the curse, no werewolf in the Spaulding or Tate family would ever meet their mate. They made certain that there would be only one way to break the curse. To break the curse, someone from the family would have to face the worlds most powerful witch.

Even when they were mated to someone else, the curse was so powerful that it would block the mate bond. Even when a werewolf had an attraction to someone of the Spauling and Tate family they quickly dismissed it. Hoping that if they were mated to one of them, that they would get a second chance mate.

When the Mikal Tate and Elaine Spaulding first met, there was an immediate attraction. Although Elaine had never known the touch of a man, she did not feel the need to save herself. After all, she would never meet her mate anyway.

That night Mikal and Elaine shared a very hot and steamy night. She passionately gave her virginity to him without regret. Soon after, she was sent away to live with relatives after finding out that she was no longer innocent.

After nearly ten years had passed, she returned to her home. Almost immediately after she had returned, she had spotted Mikal. He was as gorgeous as ever. Instead of the old feelings dying, she was surprised to find that her feelings were stronger than they had ever been.

When Mikal saw Elaine again, he was drawn to her like no other woman that he had been with over the years. He had many opportunities to marry, his memories of Elaine kept him from doing so. Now that he saw her again, he knew that this could be his second chance. Yet, he could not figure out why his feelings were unlike anything he experienced.

He had heard people talk about the mate pull. That was what he felt, but it was impossible considering they both were cursed.
