“คุณครับ...คุณคิดว่าเธอคนนี้ควรใช้เวลากับผมเพียงแค่ยี่สิบเอ็ดหรือแค่ยี่สิบแปดวันเท่านั้นเหรอครับ” คำพูดของอดัมสร้างความฉงนไม่เข้าใจให้กับเภสัชกรตรงหน้าอย่างมาก

“ก็เธอคนนี้...คนที่ยืนอยู่ข้างๆผม...เธอเข้าใจว่าผมจะให้เธออยู่กับผมเพียงแค่ปริมาณยาคุมกำเนิดที่ผมให้เธอกิน” อดัมพูดต่อโดยที่สายตาของเขายังคงจ้องอยู่ที่เภสัชกรเท่านั้น แต่กลับเป็นเภสัชกรที่ย้ายสายตามามองคนที่ถูกกล่าวถึง และตอนนี้เภสัชกรก็เห็นใบหน้าเธอซับสีเลือดอย่างเห็นได้ชัดมากขึ้นเมื่อได้ยินประโยคคำพูดของคนข้างๆเธอ
“เข้าใจแล้วครับ...ทั้งร้านผมมียาตัวนี้อยู่น่าจะหนึ่งลังและในหนึ่งลังนั้นมีอยู่สี่ร้อยกล่องครับ...คุณจะเหมาหมดเลยมั้ยครับ” เภสัชกรวัยกลางคนที่ผ่านร้อนผ่านหนาวมามากกว่าชายตรงหน้าหลายปีนัก
