"Mate," I heard Alan call out for me, and I thought it was one of the silly pranks he used to play on me. However, the way he was looking at me gave me the creeps. "Hey, Alan, are you okay? What just happened? Is this whole "MATE" thing a joke?" I squeezed his hand lightly, waiting for him to laugh and ruffle my hair as always, admitting his prank on me.
He just stood there looking at me, not saying a word. I put my hands on his sleeves and pulled him even closer to me. I approached my face very close to Alan's and whispered at him once again-more, urgently this time: "Come on, tell me the truth, and I will not be angry with you. Alan!!! I'm talking to you, goddammit!"
He pulled my hand with force and took me outside to the packhouse’s backyard. I angrily pressed his back on the wall and said firmly. "Cut the crap and tell me what is happening. You humiliated me in front of everyone today."
Alan closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and replied: "Ariana, I could not foresee this and did not know what would happen tonight to prevent it. You are my destined mate. Damien, my wolf has confirmed the bond. You know me, Ariana. I'm asking you to please trust me." He said in a deep husky voice that sent goosebumps all over my body.
"Let's pretend that it was all a joke on your part. Come back with me back to the ballroom and tell everyone that you wanted to have fun with me pretending we are mates."
I took his hand and tried to make my way back to the ballroom to make things clear to the rest of the people who heard Alan calling me his mate.
