Jade Coleman keeps herself out of everyone's way. Work, home, repeat — no small talk, no attachments beyond the two people she's let matter: her brother and the sister-in-law who raised her right alongside him. That's the only life she wants. It's working, until it isn't.
It starts small. Water she swears she left running. Lights that turn themselves off. Then it isn't small anymore — her bedroom floor opens beneath her, and she wakes up soaked in sweat, certain it was just a nightmare. Except it happens again. And again. Until she's afraid to sleep at all, missing deadlines, losing the first real friendships she's ever let herself made — and even a night at her brother's house doesn't stop the floor from opening under her.
She's always trusted facts over fear, and her own mind over anyone else's. But if she's going to survive whatever is happening to her, she'll have to do the one thing she's spent her whole life avoiding: let someone else in.
