As I rounded the corner and entered the school courtyard, my heart skipped a beat at the sight of him standing there, a beacon of light amidst the sea of senior-year students. At that moment, as I started to close the distance between us, I knew that I had found my anchor in the storm. He was smiling and laughing with his friends including my brother, Kev. As I got closer, his head turned and his expression changed from grin to glum.
“Zenith, I need to…”
“Come with him.” He didn’t even let me finish and walked away expecting me to follow. He was heading towards the woods, the exact place where we planned to see each other after school. Did he find out as well?
I quietly followed him and stood beside him, quietly waiting for him to say something.
“Calista,” His voice was grim, and my heart started to beat faster. “I am sorry for my behavior from last night, I was overwhelmed and some unexpected things happened. I freaked out.”
“I understand, it can be too much but…” I was about to tell him, there was no reason to feel overwhelmed, that we would figure things out together exactly what he said to me a number of times during the span of this summer.
He put his hands in his pocket looking dashing as always. I can’t believe that he could like me, one of the ugliest girls in the school but I knew him. He wasn’t a shallow person, but what if I was wrong?
“I can’t do this.”
Wait. what did he say? The insecurities started to creep in, raising the telltale sign of another panic attack but I focused on him and my breathing, “What do you mean?”
“I, Zenith Sterling, the Lycan prince of the Black Walker Pack reject you Calista Petros, the omega of Night Shade Pack as my mate…”
