I am sixteen; He is thirty-two.
I am a student; He is a teacher.
I am engaged to his nephew, in a contract marriage that we could never escape. It was an impossible love, to begin with – an unrequited emotion that only I cared about.
It was until a factor that we couldn’t fathom came knocking on our doorstep.
“Let me say this again, Eren. I did not bully that woman. Neither did I touch her, nor did I start any stupidity to harm that b***h – physically or emotionally. You don’t have to believe me, since it’s not like I will gain anything from explaining things to you…”
With the coldest yet calmest tone that I could use, I finally opened my mouth to say my piece in this relationship.
If Eren has no intention to continue our engagement, then I am not the kind of woman who will force him to do it. After all, he is not the only man in their family who could continue this contract.
“…Well, let’s cancel our engagement, but your family needs to provide another man to continue our business arrangement…”
My parents looked at me with awe and so did Eren and his family. I could see the confusion in their eyes after hearing my statement. It was a valid point since Uncle Hugo and Auntie Cynthia only had Eren as their child.
It’s not like Uncle Hugo could divorce his wife just to marry me.
“…Steve White, I don’t mind having you as my fiancé. Please accept this engagement and be my husband.”
And with the brightest smile that I could ever show on my face, I finally answered the mystery in my statement, leaving them all in further awe.
