FORGETTING EVERYTHING and everyone else, Aslyn squeezed pat the newest entrant to the cell as she went up to the bars and squeezed past the newest entrant to the cell. She reached an arm out of the corner nearest the other cell and called out, “Iz?”
Isabella joined her at the corner and briefly took her hand but then, aware of where they were, let it go. “I’m here. God, I was so scared. I thought it was you over there before but I couldn’t be sure. Where...where did they take you?”
“The hospital first. My lip...”
“Are you okay?”
“It hurts and I’m supposed to follow up with a doc but it’s all stitched up, for now.”
“I called my dad. He’s calling a lawyer.”
“They didn’t let me make a call, not yet.”
