Cry of the banshee

Neither Mortimer nor Vanessa had ever fought a banshee before. They had only heard tales of banshee encounters and read about the creature in books. Banshees were the spirits of women who had been tortured to death. Unlike other spirits, they didn't seek to possess a living host. These malicious beings were filled with rage and sorrow and their souls twisted with suffering. What made a banshee especially difficult to deal with, was its high pitched scream which could knock any living creature in a 5 mile radius unconscious and block out all spells. Any human who heard the screams of a banshee for an extended period of time was susceptible to fall under its influence. Many men had gone crazy and committed suicide after losing their minds to a banshee's mad screaming.
