Joel pulls up outside his cabin and immediately shuts off the engine. He gets off the quad, lifting me along with him and sets me on my feet. My legs feel like jelly but I manage to walk to the bench on the front deck with Joel following closely behind me. Once I'm sat down Joel runs back to the quad and routes around in the bags in the trailer before returning with the bottled water and taking off the lid before handing it to me. I take a sip and then hold the cold bottle to my cheek.
“You need to stay hydrated,” he says softly.
“I feel like I'm on fire,” I groan, using my free hand to try and fan myself.
“It’s normal, let me get you a damp cloth. Do you want to come inside or stay out here?” he asks.
“Out here,” I breathe, leaning back on the bench and closing my eyes.
I hear Joel go inside a……
