“Get on!” Joel shouts, whilst still attempting to push the quad over the rapidly crumbling stone crossing.
“No, the extra weight will just sink it further into the rocks,” I call back as I push with all my might.
I glance over my shoulder and see a single wolf watching us. He is grey with bright blue eyes that remind me so much of Niall. His head is low, and he growls and snaps his jaw at us, but he has not crossed the flag that marks his territory. He is simply telling us to stay back, which is good. He is a gamma-strength wolf and will be able to sense Joel’s superior Beta strength. I suspect he won’t give chase until his backup arrives, which gives us a little time. The second wolf is retreating, its white fur only just visible between the trees. It’s probably a young wolf still in train……
