I managed to steer Zeke away from his weird fixation on Elijah the whole ride back to the house. From what I can recall of my past life, he was trying to court him like they do in Zarda, when you find your soulmate. The question was why though. I already checked, and he didn’t have his soul necklace on. So he must not have earned his yet, in accordance with the laws there anyway. I have never heard of the non-magical worlds having soulmates in magical ones. I will have to let Elijah know so he doesn't fall for his tricks.
I pulled up to our house, checking on Callie before getting out of Beedy. Yup, she was still zoned out. I went to the door she was closest to, opening it up. “Hey, do you think you could help me get her out of the car and into the house?” I asked Elijah, who was on the other side of her.
“Yeah, no problem.” He responded the way I knew he would. I was always so grateful to the spunky red head for being my sisters friend. I could always count on him to take care of her when I wasn’t around.
“Did you hear that, Al? Elijah and I are going to help you into the house, so work with us, okay? At the count of three.” I directed my attention to Elijah, asking him more than her, but she needed to hear it as well. When he nodded his confirmation, I started counting. “One, two, and three.” We hoisted her out of the beetle. She moved with us, still out of it. She is on what I like to call robot mode. Her body acts of its own accord, while she’s zoned out. Mom calls it muscle memory, but having a robot as a sister sounded cooler.
We managed to guide her into the house and got her to sit on the living room couch without a hitch. “Wait here with her, and I will get her a drink.” I started towards the kitchen, “Would you like a drink too, Elijah?” I asked. I got a shake of the head as a response, while he kept his attention on my sister, rubbing her back. It was the least I could do for my sisters bestie, who was a major help. Now, if I could only get them to date. That would take away so much of my worries, knowing she would have someone to start a life with when I left. He was the only one I accepted to take care of her in my place and for my brother in law.
I was lost in my thought process while I entered the kitchen to grab Al a ginger ale. Luckily, dad liked open concept houses, so I had a perfect view of the couch from here, just a pony wall between the rooms. I opened the fridge, wondering if a snack would help as well. Like mom always says, calories are needed when this happens, but I also know she was drinking at Blaine’s as well, and she will need something to absorb it, even though I barley smelt any on her, it couldn’t hurt, right? I was pretty hungry too, I started to grab ingredients to make everyone sandwiches.
Speaking of smells, a terrible one just entered the kitchen. “Were you just going to leave me out there by myself?” I rolled my eyes before closing the fridge to see a seething Zeke standing there.
“Well, I was hoping when I ditched you in the car that you would have realized you are not welcomed here. Now, if you excuse me, I have a sister to look after.” I snapped. I tried to get to the table, but he just kept blocking my way. He knew how to frustrate me to no end. I narrowed my eyes. “Get out of my way. My sister needs me.” He was definitely asking for a Kelly beat down at this point.
He finally relented, looking at my hands all smug. I looked down, noticing pink sparkly dust coming off of them like they have done in the past. “Yeah, you are so human.” He went on sarcastically, sitting in one of the kitchen chairs. I calmed enough that the pink glittery cloud disappeared.
