“He will be fine, Your Grace,” reassured Lucille for the tenth time.

Amy nodded, but her eyes were distant. She was not sure if she understood any of the things that the Luxdale court servant had said. All she knew was that Henri was motionless on the bed. He did not move except for the heaving of his chest as he breathed. There were burn marks on his fingers and arms as though his own blaze hurt him. Last night, when she found him floating in the air within a pillar of light, his powers were blazing so bright that it lit up the darkening night sky like it was midday.

“You can leave us now, Lucille,” said Geneva as she shifted in her chair across Henri’s bed. “Thank you for your assistance."

“My pleasure, my Lady,” answered the courtier with a curtsy. “I’ll be in the kitchen if you need me.”
