Chapter 19: The Furnace Room

Rennie knows exactly what she wants and has no plans to be quiet about it: a hearth-fire of her own, and she'd be really good friends with it. She says this to the apprentice, in a room full of furnaces, with her hand on the tallest one. What I keep circling is the story he tells her first. Everybody in it spent a lifetime trying to catch that fire, and he never says whose it is. She doesn't ask. She calls it popular. Do you think he was relieved she didn't?
