The chapter of the story posed a very contradictory statement: the kindness of a hellhound. This chapter was intended to show that, despite of the unflattering name and the brutality and apparent sadism in Ifrit's part, he understood kindness and willingness to help, even if it was motivated by something more personal and not completely out of altruistic reasons (though it still was). We also got introduced to the third main character: a human named Albert Schafner. He became involved with Ifrit and Lilac by hiring them as part of his business as a freelance hauler (equivalent to a trucker with his own truck). He introduced the two, and to readers, the land where the book was set on.
