The next two days went by in a rush like I had just blinked an eye and everything simply flew by. The atmosphere at the palace had changed ever since the night of the feast, and I had been avoiding Eragon as best I could. Even though he didn't, not even once, looked for me, I thought I might just show him how much I hated the idea of being his mistress.
But that didn't stop the nagging feeling that kept bugging me at the back of my mind. What had he meant when he said he didn't kill my parents? Surely he must be lying. I know what I saw, and I clearly remember the attack as though it happened yesterday. The memory was still fresh, and I could see the soldiers setting fire to the rooftops whenever I closed my eyes.
