I could still hear his voice echoing loudly in my head, and each word he said pierced through the silent gathering of the pack members like a dagger, breaking every piece of my heart.
"You're not my mate, Serena. You have never been a good match. "You are too weak to be my luna!" He scoffed.
My heart clenches hearing him spats those words to me without remorse, the bond that once bonded me to Damien was losing like a fragile thread.
The moonlight which was spilling through the open window did nothing to warm the ice spreading through my veins, my feet were frozen.
I stand before him, my so-called mate, my Alpha, the man who swore to love me. But love was never part of his plan.
"Chloe is my true mate," he continues, his tone void of remorse as he speaks. "The Moon Goddess made a mistake with you and I am correcting it."
I feel my knees buckle, but I refuse to fall right before him.
Not in front of him. Not in front of her.
Chloe was standing beside him, her both hands in nothing but his shirt, the smirk on her face sent my heart aching. She was my best friend. My sister in all but blood. The most trusted person I had.
"You should have seen this coming, Serena, but you were dumb!" she spat. "Damien was never yours. He belongs to me. Can't you see we are a good fit."
I opened my mouth to speak but the words hung in my throat. My eyes are blurring. My wolf, which was broken and wounded, lets out a low, mournful howl in my head.
"You rejected me?" I asked Damien. To ensure I wasn't dreaming.
"I reject you, Serena Nightshade," Damien says without hesitation.
"And by my right as Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack, I sentence you to exile. You have until sunrise. If you are still in my pack, you will be killed."
A cruel chuckle leaves Chloe’s lips hearing the announcement against me. She walked closer to me, a fake smile flashed her face.
"And trust me, darling, I’ll be leading the hunt"
“What! Chloe? You…. You can't do that to me” I tried saying, tears were rolling down my cheeks as I stared at both of them.
Nothing was left inside me, I was betrayed and filled with rage.
I stare at Damien, willing my voice to hold steady and holding the tears. "You will regret this."
He only smirks. "Doubtful."
I run.
I don't have a plan. I don't have a destination. I only have the truth burning inside me, threatening to consume me whole.
Damien never loved me.
Chloe betrayed me.
And worst of all—I carry Damien’s child.
Left alone to die.
A sob broke down from my throat. I’d suspected for days, but tonight confirmed it. The scent of new life within me—something only an Alpha would sense. The knowledge had flashed across Damien’s face. He knew I was carrying his child. And still, he cast me away.
I kept Sprinting. Blood had stained my skin. I scramble to push myself up, but then I hear them.
Footsteps. And then the familiar voice. One I fear most now. The one person who had threatened to behead me and hunt me.
“Chloe!” I brimmed under my breath.
It was Chloe's voice I heard. She spoke up again leaving my body trembling where I stood.
"Come out, come out, wherever you think you hide. Else … “ she paused.
“I Chloe will hunt you the worst way because I am going to find you wherever you hide" she spat and laughed out slightly.
My breath hitches for some minutes. I force myself forward, but it's too late.
Wolves had gathered from the darkness, their eyes glowing with hunger. Damien's soldiers.
"She looks so pathetic beloved" one of them sneers, gazing into my eyes. "Are we really wasting time on this traitor?" He quests.
"Alpha's orders," another grunts. "Make it hurt."
I rush forward, but a clawed hand tears over my ribs, causing anguish to burst in my side. As warm blood pours through my clothes, I collapse and scream. I fight to stay conscious, but my strength is slipping away.
"Goodbye, Serena," Chloe whispers . "Maybe in your next life, you won’t be such a naive little bitch."
A boot slams into my stomach, and the world s**t into darkness
I wake to agony.
My side burns. My hands were weak. My body was filled with bruises.
I should be dead.
Instead, I am alone in the woods, left to rot like discarded prey. Chloe wanted me to suffer, and Damien? He didn’t even bother to watch me die.
A low growl rumbles in my chest. My wolf stirs.
Filled with pain and fury which was blending into something sharp, something deadly inside of me.
I press my trembling hand to my belly, whispering a silent promise to the child within me. To feel if my child was still alive.
We will survive.
I drag myself to stand up, my eyes spinning, and force one foot in front of the other. My body screams in protest, wanting to lay down there but I don’t stop to stand. I can't stop and lay over here.
Then, I heard a sound.
It was a howl from a wolf.
My breath hitches for seconds as I examine my environment.. I turn sharply, but it's not Damien's soldiers.
It's something worse than his soldiers.
Their eyes, which were golden, were piercing through me, locked onto me. The scent that follows is unfamiliar but sends danger towards my direction.
The Shadow Fang Pack?
I couldn't stand it. I couldn't fight them either. Staring into their eyes was enough to kill me. The thought it was a Shadow fang pack left nothing but my head spinning and my feet trembling.
I hit the ground, holding my stomach tightly. My child. Knowing this is the end for me. I closed my eyes tight and darkness took the best part of me.
