The Braided Hair and Lucian’s Promise

This chapter is very close to my heart.
After so much conflict and danger, I wanted to pause and show a quieter kind of strength—the kind that lives in care, presence, and promises made without witnesses. Lucian braiding Talia’s hair and keeping watch over her felt deeply honest to me. It’s one of my favorite moments in the story, because it shows who he is when the crown comes off.
