I heard the phone ring amid my dream. At the third ring, I picked up the receiver.

“Hello?” I groaned, my mind still half-asleep and my heart racing.

“I am so sorry to wake you, Talya. How are you?”

“Isaac?” I sat up. Somehow the name didn’t match the voice I heard. “Where... where are you?”

“Sorry to wake you, but I just wanted to let you know I’ll be in Vancouver in a few hours.”

“Are you driving?”

“Yes, I’m in a town called Kamloops – I should be at your place before lunch.”

“But I’m working...”

“I know that. That’s why I phoned early.”

“Okay, why don’t you come to our office and I could introduce you to everyone...”

“All right then; give me the address... but I’ll phone you when I am approaching the city.”
