Violet gave an indignant squawk in her arms, and Willow realized she’d been clutching the baby too close. She shushed the infant and adjusted her to a more comfortable position. “The nerve of that man!” She said to the baby, who kicked her little feet in agreement. “He didn’t even ask after you today.”
Violet’s complaints turned serious as she demanded a feed. Willow sighed and reached for the laces of her bodice, feeling rather thankful for the baby’s needs. At least those she understood. Her fingers grazed the cool silver necklace. The duke only left her feeling confused. She freed her breast and lifted Violet so that she could latch on.
The problem, Willow realized, was not that the Duke had kissed her.
