Seraphina's POV
The room fell silent as Rylan's words hung in the air. I searched his eyes for any sign of deception, but all I found was a glimmer of sincerity. Could it be that there was more to him than met the eye? A sliver of doubt seeped into my heart, mingling with the anger and fear that consumed me.
"Why should I believe you?" I asked, my voice laced with caution. "You could be playing some sick mind game with me, just like the other deranged sick folks."
Rylan shook his head, his expression earnest. "I understand why you're skeptical, Seraphina. But I promise you, I'm not like them. I never wanted any of this. I was forced into this life, just like you."
His words struck a chord within me, a faint flicker of empathy surfacing. We were both prisoners in this twisted world, trapped by circumstances beyond our control.
I hesitated for a moment, considering his words. Finally, I nodded, a silent acknowledgment of the fragile bond forming between us. "Okay, Rylan," I said, my voice softer now. "I'll give you a chance. But know this, if you ever betray me, I will never forgive you”
Rylan's eyes locked with mine, determination shining through. "I won't betray you, Seraphina. We're in this together now."
As time passed, Rylan and I grew closer. We shared our stories, our dreams. I confided in him about my desperation to find a way back to my old life, to the people who cared about me. Rylan listened, offering solace amidst the chaos that surrounded us.
Together, we began to piece together a plan. It was a risky endeavor, fraught with danger at every turn, but we knew we had to take the chance. Rylan, however, made it clear that he had no intention of leaving. His loyalty to his father, Lucius, bound him to this place, even if he despised the cruelty that reigned within these walls.
"I understand your decision, Rylan," I said, disappointment tainting my voice. "But I can't stay here. I have to escape, no matter the cost."
He nodded, his eyes filled with a mix of sorrow and regret. "I wish things were different, Seraphina. I wish I could go with you. But if there's even a chance for you to escape, I won't stand in your way."
I appreciated his understanding, but it pained me to leave him behind. Still, my determination burned brighter than ever, propelling me forward.
With Rylan's help, I meticulously planned every detail of my escape. We identified weak spots in the security, mapped out the layout of the compound, and devised a strategy to evade capture. Every night, under the cover of darkness, we would meet in secret to discuss our plans.
As the day of my escape neared, anticipation and anxiety coiled within me. Rylan's voice echoed in my mind, reminding me to stay strong, to believe in myself. But no matter how carefully we planned, there was always an element of unpredictability, a sense of danger lurking in the shadows.
The night of my escape arrived, shrouded in darkness and uncertainty. Rylan stood by my side, his face etched with worry. "Be careful, Seraphina," he whispered, his voice barely audible. "Remember everything we've discussed. Stay focused and trust your instincts."
I nodded, my heart pounding in my chest. With one last look at Rylan, I slipped away, melting into the darkness
The night air was thick with tension as I made my way through the dimly lit corridors of the compound. Every creaking floorboard, every whisper of the wind seemed to conspire against me. But I pushed forward, my determination fueling my every step.
As I stealthily navigated the maze-like structure, my heart raced in my chest. The plan relied on timing and precision. I had to be quick, elusive, and silent, just like the shadows that danced around me.
Voices echoed from a nearby room, drawing my attention. I pressed myself against the wall, straining to listen. It was Lucius and his pack discussing their plans for the night, oblivious to the fact that their prisoner was slipping away.
"We need to keep her contained," Lucius growled, his voice seething with malice. "She's a threat to our existence. I won't let her escape."
I suppressed a shiver, knowing that every second I lingered put me in greater danger. I continued along the darkened hallway, inching closer to my freedom.
Suddenly, a noise from behind startled me. I spun around to find myself face to face with one of the pack members, his eyes gleaming with sadistic delight.
"Well, well, what do we have here?" he sneered, blocking my path. "Trying to make a run for it, little mouse?"
My heart pounded in my chest as panic threatened to consume me. I had to think fast. With a surge of adrenaline, I lunged forward, catching the pack member off guard. I dodged his clumsy grasp, ducking and weaving through the labyrinthine hallways.
"Get back here, you wretched girl!" he shouted, his anger fueling his pursuit.
My breath came in ragged gasps as I sprinted, my legs burning with exertion. But just as I thought I had eluded him, another pack member emerged from the shadows, blocking my path.
"Going somewhere, sweetheart?" he taunted, a sadistic grin stretching across his face.
Fear surged through my veins, but I refused to give in. I summoned every ounce of strength within me, channeling it into a surge of desperate energy. With a swift kick to his knee, I managed to momentarily incapacitate him, buying myself a precious moment to escape.
I ran as though my life depended on it, weaving through the labyrinth of corridors, determined to reach the exit. But fate seemed determined to keep me within these walls.
Just as I reached the exit door, a strong hand clamped down on my shoulder, yanking me backward. Lucius stood before me, his eyes burning with rage.
"You really thought you could escape, little one?"
