The blood on my silk sheets was still warm when they dragged me from my chambers.
“You dared conspire against the throne. Your punishment is death." The Emperor said.
"I did nothing."I tried to explain it.
My protests fell on deaf ears as they bound my hands and marched me through the palace gardens. We passed the ancient sakura tree, its bare branches brittle with frost. Once a symbol of fleeting beauty, now it seemed a mirror of my fate: forgotten and broken. At the empty plum orchard, the blade struck me and the darkness swallowed me. But death was not the end.
I woke up in my chambers, alive and unscathed. The calendar read a date I knew well one month before the Winter Lantern Festival, one month before my death.
This time, I will not die. When it happens I already have my revenge and I am not going to let them hurt me again.
