CHAPTER 19

Báfurr may have slain that mountain-sized white wolf, but the wolf had gotten some licks in first. Báfurr was holding his sword in both hands, and even after he lowered the blade, I could still see it tremble in his unsteady grasp. Blood from a head wound covered half his face and coated his beard, and his torso was soaked from a large bite that encompassed his entire left shoulder. And when he stepped towards Loke, he was dragging one foot behind him.

"I killed it," he said disbelievingly, staring down at the wolf's gaping maw. "I didn't think I could. I didn't think it was even possible."

"It's monstrously huge, sure, but mortal for all that," Loke said, giving the corpse a disrespectful kick.

"You don't understand, this thing fell out of the sky," Báfurr said in a harsh whisper, ……
